Automotive, Industrial & Safety-Critical Systems

When technology controls a vehicle, a production line or safety-critical infrastructure, the stakes in any dispute are high. Our experts cover automotive engineering and emissions, vehicle radar and ADAS, industrial control and operational technology, and large-scale engineering systems. We examine how these systems were designed and how they performed, and provide clear, independent evidence on what the technical facts show.

What we cover

  • Automotive engineering and emissions
  • Vehicle radar and ADAS
  • Industrial control and operational technology
  • Large-scale engineering systems
  • Design, performance and safety analysis

Automotive engineering, emissions and electronics

The modern vehicle is a networked computer as much as a machine, and disputes increasingly turn on the software and electronics inside it. Our experts examine powertrain and engine-management systems, emissions control and the conduct alleged in emissions matters, electronic control units and vehicle networks, and the connected and telematics features now built into most cars.

We assess how these systems were designed to behave and how they behaved in fact, and we distinguish genuine engineering explanations from the accounts that do not fit the evidence.

Vehicle radar, ADAS and driver assistance

Advanced driver-assistance systems rely on radar, cameras and sensor fusion to interpret the world and act on it. Our experts analyse how these systems perceive their surroundings, make decisions and intervene, and how they performed in the circumstances in dispute.

That supports incident reconstruction and product-liability questions, where the issue is whether a system detected what it should have, responded as it was designed to, and met the standard reasonably expected of it.

Industrial control and operational technology

Beyond the vehicle sit the control systems that run plant, production lines and critical infrastructure. Our experts address industrial control systems, PLCs and SCADA, operational-technology security, and large-scale engineering systems, examining how they were specified, integrated and operated, and why they failed or underperformed.

Evidence where safety and reliability are on trial

In safety-critical matters the stakes and the scrutiny are high. Our experts set out the technical facts impartially in CPR Part 35 compliant reports, test the competing explanations against the physical and recorded evidence, and give clear oral evidence on what the engineering does and does not support.
